“In Defence of the Concept of Genocide”: my Amsterdam lecture

This month is the 80th anniversary of Raphael Lemkin’s introduction fo the concept of genocide in Axis Rule in Occupied Europe. On 17 October, I gave the annual Holocaust and Genocide Studies Lecture for NIOD in Amsterdam. Criticising those who would abandon Lemkin’s concept, I looked at its relevance today in the light of Gaza. You can watch it or read the text HERE.

  1. Unfortunately it did not allow to do either choice. I would love to do one of the other. Could you send me either the text or the recording of you delivery. I think Lemkin’s analysis of genocide, especially his piece “Soviet Genocide in Ukraine”, is useful for concptualizing current Putin’s genocidal invasion of Ukraine.

    Best regards,

    Roman
